Self Titled was a personal achievement. I truly felt like I had refined my sound on that record. The mixes just felt bolder, yet there was one last thing I wanted to refine. Bass. For the A New Era EP, Ponies and Powerchords, and the Self Titled album, the bass presented on those projects were all using a bass midi preset from Garageband called "Liverpool Bass." As I did not own a bass guitar at that point.

Fortunately, on my 18th birthday, I was given a beautiful 5 string wooden Ibanez Gio bass guitar. Unfortunately, three days after, we made the decision to put down our 12-year-old senior pug, Hank. I was devastated, and unable to process much over the next few weeks. The most I could do was record the song Sleep Well in dedication to his memory, and that was it for a while.

A while after Hank passed away, I was in Anchorage with some of my family, and we were looking for a place to chill for a bit and eat. We ended up at Abbot Loop Community Park. I saw a large sprawling field next to the playground and a little place where people sometimes hang out. I asked my grandmother, who was visiting us at the time, to take some photos of me standing in that field. While I was standing in that field, I felt a sense of escapism and relief. I felt every burden lift off of my shoulders when I stood in that field. The big ones being turning 18 and Hank passing away. I was later inspired to create an album called Fields.

As I do not have the experience behind this album like I did Ponies and Powerchords and Self Titled, I cannot tell you the emotions I feel about this album, for this is the first time people are going to hear it and react to it. I'm nervous because I really want the 6 months of pain I felt through the creation of this album to be worth something, and not just attached to a mediocre/poorly mixed project. I am not the voice of the people (ponies?) though, and I must stand tall with this album, for it is a gateway to my heart.
